I've been having problems with creating a network for days now. I haven't been able to get help anywhere else, and this may be my last hope. Any and all help is appreciated!
Here's the situation:
I live in a house with 2 stories and a basement. I have a computer on the second floor, compA, with the cable connection and modem. The other computer, compB, is in the basement and has a network card.
I got a router free form my ISP but after hooking everything up the signal I was getting was very weak. I expected this, but it was fine for a while. Recently the connection is entirely gone, I suspect too much interference. I took the router to compB and used it's network card to connect to this router, but I can't figure out how to bridge the connections of compB's router and compA's modem. Is there a way to do this or am I out of luck? Thanks in advance!
compA is running WinVista
compB is running WinXP
compA modem WRTU54G-TM
compB Gigabyte network card and SMC wireless N router

It sounds like the wireless router has failed. You'll need to look into a better router and most likely what's known as a wireless repeater to get the signal from the second floor to the basement. Best recommendation is to get both from the same manufacturer. Linksys makes them, as does Belkin I believe, along with a few other manufacturers.

I don't think the router has failed because I can still connect to it with my network card, but it has to be close.
I think the original problem was the distance. If that's the case then I suppose I would have to setup a repeater. Are there any specific models/tutorials you would suggest?
Thanks for the help.

If you're computer has to be close (i.e. within 1-2 rooms distance) to the router for an acceptable connection, then I'd say there's a problem.
Look at the Linksys E2000 and their wireless repeater. The E2000 is designed for larger homes and it should match just fine with a Linksys repeater. An alternate would be the Apple Airport Extreme and Express (as a repeater).
I'm currently using the E2000, but will probably go to an Airport Extreme due to it's better compatibility with AppleTV.

I'll try out that linksys router then. Hopefully I won't have a problem past that point, but if I do I'll be sure to come back and ask.
Thanks a lot Jedi Master, you've been a great help.

I'm still having trouble with this.
I went ahead and bought an E3000, because the guy at the store suggested it (naturally). However I don't think I'm doing it right or even can do it the way I'm hoping.
What I am trying to do can be seen in the first diagram here:
http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=8970793be6034830941854eb8b66b5a7_4194.xml&pid=96&slnid=2
However, instead of having a wired and wireless router connected to the modem computer, I have the WRTU54G-TM, a wireless router that is plugged into the modem and computer.
So I'm trying to replicate the diagram with the modem computer using only a linksys WRTU54G-TM router and the other computer using a linksys E3000. Is it possible to bridge these two routers the way shown in the diagram, or am I just completely wrong here?

I don't believe the WRTUS54G can be used as an access point or bridge. The first thing you need to do is to set up the E3000. Get it up and running and working correctly with your laptop that's closest to it first before trying to add an access point/repeater. The E3000 may provide enough coverage for you so that your computer in the basement can easily connect to the network.
Follow their "easy setup" instructions for the E3000.

Well I tried a few different scenarios, and the way things are in this particular situation I can see on the network bridge method working.
I guess I'll have to swap out the E3000 for 2 access point routers. Any suggestions for a linksys model that can act as a bridge?
