I am responsible for Asset Management and I have to track all hardware/desktops/etc... If a user plugs a desktop into a port, and the port is disabled, and the user does not have an valid IP address (thru DHCP) and the MAC address is not recognized by the router. Is there any way (using software or hardware) to collect information about this desktop intrusion. Meaning, can I read the bios number, the OS, or any information about the new asset that just attempted to connect to our network. Our environment - windows / solaris / linux / cisco

Try dumping the syslog files. You could also check the router/switch logs and you should be able to find it there. ---------------------------------------------- Matthew Palys Access Northeast mpalys@axsne.com "Your Partner For IP Network Solutions"
