| Hello...I have Windows XP SP3 and I am connecting to Internet via Shared Internet Connection. I am not admin and I dont have access to router.I am connected to a server who shares internet connection wirelessly. My question is :Is it possible for me to run my own server (apache or anything) without accessing the router? I dont even need static IP,just want to access my computer files from anywhere so I can turn on my comp and go to my friend and from there access my files.... Please...help...If you need more information from me,please ask me.... |

| Tough question, but a good one. The quick answer is...no. As I understand this, your computer is connected to a server. I'm assuming that this is a true client/server network where there's at least one computer running as a Domain Controller. Let me know if I'm incorrect here. The server needs to be set up to allow remote access (a process well beyond this forum). | OK...thank you very much... So I now need to contact my admin and tell him to open port 21 on router to my computer so I can have FTP Server..right? |
