Hello...I have Windows XP SP3 and I am connecting to Internet via Shared Internet Connection. I am not admin and I dont have access to router.I am connected to a server who shares internet connection wirelessly. My question is :Is it possible for me to run my own server (apache or anything) without accessing the router? I dont even need static IP,just want to access my computer files from anywhere so I can turn on my comp and go to my friend and from there access my files.... Please...help...If you need more information from me,please ask me....

Tough question, but a good one. The quick answer is...no. As I understand this, your computer is connected to a server. I'm assuming that this is a true client/server network where there's at least one computer running as a Domain Controller. Let me know if I'm incorrect here. The server needs to be set up to allow remote access (a process well beyond this forum). Advise if I'm incorrect in how your computer is setup (i.e. connected to a DC server). ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

Much more than that. They'll need to configure both the server(s) and your computer for remote access. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200
