Is this a "custom built" system, or retail (i.e. Dell, Gateway, etc.). Also, does your computer have a separate audio card, or is it integrated with the motherboard? Also, when you said you read some other no sound post but none of the solutions worked, what specifically did you try? Finally, you do have speakers hooked up, correct? ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200

its custom build the intel dx58so has built in audio so no external audio card installed the speakers are correct i tried several restarts, reinstalling drivers, settings for administrative settings and bios settings

First, go into the BIOS to make sure they're enabled. Next, uninstall the drivers, reboot, and let WinxP find the drivers by connecting to the internet. Also, when you go into Device Manager, is there a yellow exclamation point next to the audio device? If not, and there are valid entries for an audio device, try pluggin in headphones into the audio out to see if you get sound. If no luck, take it back to the person that built it. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway 15.4" Laptop, Windows Vista Ultimate/Server 2008, Photoshop CS3, Nikon D200
