Hello, I added the /3GB switch at the end of the boot.ini file in order to increase the memory available for processes. After restarting there was some kind of a check for system files (I didn't stay there to look what was happening and if something was fixed) and after that I was able to log in. Now, however, the computer is extremely slow and there were lots of error messages when windows was started. I tried to edit the boot.ini file again to remove the switch (through 'startup and recovery'), but I got the error message "Cannot open the C:\boot.ini file. Make sure the disk is in the drive you specified.". I also tried to find the file C:\boot.ini manually, but it's not there, even though I'm showing hidden files and the "Hide extensions to known files" option is unchecked as well. I tried to look for it in C:\ subfolders, e.g., C:\temp, but every time I try to open the folders, I get an error message "C:\temp is not accessible. Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service." Do you have any ideas of what I should do? I was thinking of creating a new boot.ini file in C:\, but I don't know what happens then because there is definitely already a boot.ini file somewhere. Is reinstalling windows the only option? I wouldn't want to risk losing the files I have on my computer. I'm using Windows XP Pro. Very thankful for your help!
