Currently on my computer if I go into the LAN connections there is none listed although I do have a local area connection. My computer connects to a dsl modem\ router (AT&T) through a hub and a ip address is assigned automatically. I can see other computers and go on the internet...but yet there is no network connection listed? I recently needed to install some VMWare software and after I did my computer could not connect to the network....no IP address...nothing. I DID notice though that after doing this I had a LAN connection listed but it does not work......it seems whenever I have one listed it does not work...and when there is not...it does?? It is not the software...I once tried running the XP network wizard before installing the software and....after I ran it listed a connection...but it did not work. My Network card is built into the motherboard and my computer is a Gateway. I also ran into this problem on another similar Gateway machine. My other XP computer I have lists a network connection and it works and I all had to do was just plug it in.. The only way I got my computer to connecting to the network again was to do a XP restore point.
