Ok, my problem is this:
Yesterday night, my computer decided to restart itself, as it was late, i decided to turn it off and get some sleep. Now when i try to restart, it asks how i want to start it, in safe mode etc. Whatever one i chose, it just restarts itself. It resatrts itself before the login screen, but just after it loads. Ive tried running in Normally, from last known working configuration, and in safe mode, it just does the same thing over and over again.
If anyone could help me with this, it would be a great help.
P.S, a system reboot would be a last resort, was working on my ict project for college for 12 hours yesterday, and dont want to lose it.
Regards

Someone else had a similar issue. Turned out it was a problem with RAM. Take it into a shop to have it thoroughly checked. It could be RAM, an overheating CPU, a power supply or who knows what. Having a reputable shop take a look at it is your best bet.

any luck with this? same thing is happening to me. you can buy a new computer for what ram, power supplies and other components cost for what i use the computer that isn't an option and i'd like to save my information as well.
i've swapped power supplies... didn't do a thing. i can access dos but i can not access any of my cd rom drives from dos? i tried pulling the ram and cleaning it as well... nothing?
one thing interesting...
disconnect power to my floppy drive/cd burner/dvd burner and the computer gives me 3 beeps.. pause... 3 beeps constantly with no loading.
disconnect power to my floppy drive and dvd burner the computer will begin to load like normal but still reset.
disconnect both cd drives and leave the floppy the main load screen for the video card comes up and freezes.
i've been told it's a hardware issue... if this is true why can i type around in dos all day long and the cpu doesn't reset? by the way i can only access dos by using a boot disc from any windows program... 98/me/xp.
any help this is very frustrating!!! please reply or email me thanks! oddiez@hotmail.com

I'm am having this same problem as of last night. I was playing one of my games and I had just downloaded the AVG Virus Scanner and was doing a scan of my computer when it suddenly restarted itself, when it was at the windows log-in screen I tried to log in and before it could load it restarted again.. everytime I try to get on it restarts at the same place. I would like to know what caused this, if anyone knows please help me.. I don't really want to have to reboot my system but I will if I have to.

Could be an overheating problem, I fixed a PC with the same symptoms and it was all because a power lead inside the machine was touching the CPU fan which in turn slowed it down so it couldn't cool as efficiently. Check your CPU fan's clear and spinning properly - this'd explain why it runs fine in DOS and not in windows (DOS won't use near as much processing power as windows).

Check your mobo for blown capacitors, I bet you find one. If so you need to replace the board. Capacitors look like little barrels on your motherboard and the top should be a shiny metallic surface with an cross indentation or an X. If they are blown you will know.
