The zip support in xp is unchanged from windows ME and windows 98 Plus!
WHen you try uncompressing 1 .zip in a folder with many zips, and 1 zip is bad, it'll give the impression all zips are bad, if i remember correctly. This is by design, like the message says, it's a bad zip file. Make sure you're accessing each zip file 1 by 1, not a whole folder of zip files. Also try reassociating it by holding down the SHIFT key and right clicking on a zip file > open with > select the program to open zip files with.
