First, check out Supersite for Windows. Paul Thurott isn't recommending the average person be a beta tester. As to keeping your files, yes - just make sure that you back them up correctly. Once Vista is released in the final (subject to updates, service packs, patches, etc etc etc), you'll really want to do a clean install. Upgrades from older Operating Systems are begging for trouble.
