For me, it was to DELETE a dead shortcut in 'My Places' on the file open dialog box, I had forgotten I added a long time ago that suddenly changed. Tearing my hair out, I did everything previously suggested for this symptom, before I finally stumbled onto it. That is my story and hope it helps someone! It's an easy first check at least. As a work-around, click File, Save As, click My Computer on the left and select your mapped Network Drive from there. This worked for me while the Save In dropdown was not responding.
