XPHome and XPPro include the same kernel. The difference is in features (Pro includes encription, expanded networking capabilities, etc.). The first thing to check is to make sure that the BIOS is up to date. A new BIOS update can make all the difference. Also, check Microsoft's support for any references to your particular laptop. That can be a great source for fixes. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 512mb RAM, ATi Radeon 8500; SB Live Value; Windows XP Professional, Photoshop CS, Nikon D2Hs and D100

If it won't boot, then it may be a hardware problem, like the HD is toast. What "third party" software are you referring to? ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 512mb RAM, ATi Radeon 8500; SB Live Value; Windows XP Professional, Photoshop CS, Nikon D2Hs and D100

None of those conflict with WinXP and SP2. My guess is that the HD is toast. ---------------------------------------------- Work is for people who don't know how to surf Gateway Performance 1800 - P4 1.8gz, 512mb RAM, ATi Radeon 8500; SB Live Value; Windows XP Professional, Photoshop CS, Nikon D2Hs and D100
