I cant believe some of these responses. Make a new partition? what the hell is that gonna do on a bad hard drive. Download disk utilities? If the drive is going bad that won't do jack. If you do a scandisk surface scan and it finds any problems, you want to do another surface scan. If it finds any problems at all your harddrive is going downhill fast. A good way to check a bad hard drive is to do a scandisk surface scan, do a dir on drive c, or use look at drive c in fdisk. If you get any like "cannot read/write to drive c" your hard drive is toast. All it takes is a human hair to damage a hard drive. If it's damaged it will just get worse and worse until nothing is left. Get a new hard drive, dont waste your time formating or anything.
