| By your description, it's a heat issue. Either the heat sink or fan isn't working properly, or the processor is getting ready to go. The fact that the fan is noisy could mean it's not providing proper cooling. Personally, I'd trade it in for something other than a Compaq (i.e. Dell, Toshiba, Gateway, Apple - ANYTHING but a Compaq).
