What windows version do you have?

Unfortantly, thats a very generic error message that could be caused by:

-virus
-password list file, do a find for *.pwl, and delete all you find (once you restart your pwl will be remade)
-bad ram (go to start > run > type: msconfig, click advanced, click limit memory to, and type 32, click ok and reboot, if it doesnt have problem then memory)
-3rd party software such as that crap Gator. Go to start > settings > control panel > add/remove programs, uninstall any crap such as gator, morpheous, savenow, new.net, web accerator, webhancer...)
-Does it happen in safe mode? Hold down control, then choose safe mode? If safe mode is cool, then it's a 3rd party software or drive problem.
-Did you install/uninstall any software/hardware before this happened?

-gosh
