I just wondering have you ever done a programming yourself? Because from what you have written, it seems you don't fully understand the scope from reprogramming code to starting from scratch. I not specifically having ago at you, but in general, yes it is true that they are building on old problems, but if you never learn from you mistakes, how can you fix your original problems. Unfortunatly, this is all down to cost and it will always be cheaper to build on to something else than starting from scratch. And of course us consumers are the ginnipigs.
Althought if you are looking for a new Microsoft OS, Blackcomb is in development and should be arriving in about 4-5 years, with plenty of development, problem fixing, PR and bells and whistles. But 4-5 year of overal development will cost. Be patience and trust things to sort themselve out. You never know, you might get get a Microsoft Linux. hehe

I ran into the problems it talks about here when I downloaded and installed SP1. However, this weekend I blew away my system and reinstalled everything, and installed SP1 just after I had installed the original version.
Now my system runs like a dream, but I tell you that when I tried to patch the system, it totally screwed up my system. I have had other friends tell me that they have had the same experience, but now that I have reinstalled everything I love SP1. Everything runs a whole lot faster, and I love the BLISS screensaver that I found!

XP SP1 has been awesome for me. I had lots of I/O slowdown issues that are pretty much nonexistant now.
I was having freeze up problems, but I discovered that my hard drives were overheating because my room in my house is too hot. I recently moved to another room in the house and no more lock-ups (installing a GeForce4 didn't help the heat problem, BTW)!

The service pack has been great for me so far (apart from Windows telling me earlier today that I had a new network device installed when I hadn't). No problems with it, and perhaps even a little speed increase along the way.

Yeah the install did seem to take ages.

For me, I didn't really pay attention to the installation time, but I remember it took forever to download, the speed was so slow...

Replace the "system" file from "windows/repair" dir. Boot with ur WinXP CD .. go to recovery console.. then like I said .. replace the "windows/system32/config/system" file with 'windows/repair/system" file.

It says fail to load because file may be delete or corrupt. :windows/systems32/config/system" well lucky for me i had more then one comp w/ xp...but not sp1 on them...Well...let me tell u what i did so far
1)put in the xp cd...hoping that it would boot up...so i can do a system restore...nope don't work.:
2)did a startup disk...that didn't work...system still corrupt.
3)i thought this one would really work....i tried to copy the system file from my other comp w/ xp...but i found out winxp is using that file and won't let me copy something that it's using. i figure i would replace the corrupt file w/ a good one that i know.
4)now i was brainstorming here....i putt 2 hard drive together in one comp. both HD have xp sp1 install in them. i figure xp only need to use one of the system file...and i was correct. I was able to copy the system file. Now i put the system file in my bad sp1 hard drive. well that didn't work either...NOW i ran out of idea except the reformat everthing...but i need some ideas...like can u uninstall xp and reinstall it w/o deleting your file....or just reinstall xp back to the regular xp...any ideas is great!!![emote|:'(][emote|:'(][emote|:'(]
